F for Freddie – Canada Bound

From Clarence Simonsen

I have been involved with “F for Freddie” for most of my life, since 1980.

I take soft skins from WWII which I paint on. Last December I took skins from a RCAF Fleet Fawn built in 1930, and on one I painted the image of “F for Freddie” leaving England for Canada. This was donated to Richard de Boer last June and now you can use the image, if you wish.

This was painted to help raise funds for the restoration of the Calgary Mosquito.

Reblogged this on Lest We Forget and commented:

    Incredible painting

  2. Thank you Clarence, the navigator in the image is my uncle, John Custance Baker. Our family owe much to Richard de Boer for keeping Johnny and Maurice’s memory alive.

Lovely painting of a beautiful and important WW II aircraft.
Read a great book by RCAF WW II Air Navigator Dave McIntosh “Terror in the Starboard Seat”.
He flew many missions over Germany and occupied France in a DH Mosquito.
Very good read from a Canadian Veteran. Dave died in the mid ’90’s?

Beautiful, Pierre. The site for Clarence was also greatly interesting.
